A fireside chat with London Women's Clinic

## When Work and Fertility Collide

Somewhere in your organisation, someone has just come back from a clinic appointment and gone straight into a meeting. They might have had a scan, a blood test, or news they weren’t ready for. Nobody around the table knows. They’ll take notes, answer questions, and carry it alone until they get home.

In this intimate fireside chat, Fertility Matters at Work is joined by our clinic partner London Women’s Clinic to talk about the emotional toll of fertility treatment, what happens when it goes unseen at work, and what employers can do to help.

We’ll share what our research and our work with employers tell us about the impact on people and organisations, and London Women’s Clinic will share what clinic teams see when patients aren’t supported at work, and why understanding the emotional toll matters so much to how people experience treatment. We’ll also hear from a member of our community, who will talk openly about going through treatment while working: what made it harder, and what they wish their workplace had known.

What you'll take away

## You'll leave with:

**1**A clearer understanding of the psychological impact of treatment, and why it reaches far beyond appointment days

**2**Insight from inside the clinic into how workplace pressure shows up for patients

**3**An honest account of what it feels like to go through treatment while holding down a job

**4**Practical ideas for what good support looks like, from the first conversation with a manager to the wider culture

Plus, there will be time for your questions

## Who should attend:

This session is for HR, people and wellbeing professionals, line managers, ERG members and benefits teams who want to understand this properly. It’s equally for anyone going through fertility treatment, or supporting someone who is. You don’t need to share anything about your own experience to join us.

The research

## Why this matters:

Fertility treatment is often talked about as a medical process: appointments, medication, procedures. What’s talked about far less is what it does to the person living through it. The hope at the start of each cycle. The waiting. The grief when it doesn’t work, and the pressure to be back at work the next morning as though nothing has happened.

**99%**tell us fertility treatment has affected their mental wellbeing

**87%**experience anxiety or depression directly related to it

**36%**felt their employer recognised fertility treatment as a significant life event

**38%**have left or considered leaving their job because of a lack of support

FMAW 2025 UK Research Report

That gap is where people struggle, often in silence. It’s also where many quietly decide they can’t stay.

> These aren’t people who need a policy to read. They need a manager who understands why the day after a negative result is so hard, and a workplace where they don’t have to choose between their treatment and their job.

Our clinic partnerships

## About our clinic partnerships:

Clinics see the whole picture of treatment. Employers see the person at work. Too often those two worlds never meet, and the person in the middle ends up carrying both.

Our clinical partnerships, including with [London Women’s Clinic](https://www.londonwomensclinic.com/), are about closing that gap: helping patients with the workplace side of treatment, and helping employers hear directly from people who understand what treatment involves and what it asks of someone.
